introductory identification of resistant lines against the striped stem borer, chilo suppressalis (walker) under field conditions

چکیده

in sustainable agriculture, using of resistant plants is one of the best methods for integrated pest management. resistance of 140 rice promising lines against striped stem borer was evaluated in two planting date in the field under natural infections in sari agricultural science and natural resources university during 2008-2009. this study carried out as a factorial experiment in randomized complete block design with three replications. the results showed that lines of 131 (noksiah×fajr) with 94.2% and 27 (sang tarom×deylamani) with 91.4% had the highest percentage of infection and lines 2 (tarom × deylamani) and 70 (ir58025a×ir-19r/neda) had the lowest percentage of infection against the striped stem borer. therefore, these lines identified as lines of susceptible and relatively resistant, respectively. in evaluation of white head in lines to striped stem borer, the results showed that 21.42% of total lines were susceptible and 11.63% were resistant. also, percentage of infection (9.62%) and white head (14.17%) in second planting date (mid june) were higher than first planting date. coefficients of correlation for morphological traits showed that plant height (r = 0.197) and tiller number (r = -0.101) had effect on percentage of infection and tiller number (r = -0.25) on percentage of white head. also, it represented correlation between stem diameter and tiller number. increasing of tiller number causing decreasing of stem diameter make effective resistance.

Identification and Functional Analysis of the First Aquaporin from Striped Stem Borer, Chilo suppressalis

Aquaporins are integral membrane proteins some of which form high capacity water-selective channels, promoting water permeation across cell membranes. In this study, we isolated the aquaporin transcript (CsDrip1) of Chilo suppressalis, one of the important rice pests. CsDrip1 included two variants, CsDrip1_v1 and CsDrip1_v2. Although CsDrip1_v2 sequence (>409 bp) was longer than CsDrip1_v1, the...

The Effect of Diazinon on Some Biochemical Characteristics of Chilo Suppressalis Walker (lepidoptera: Pyralidae), Rice Striped Stem Borer

Rice striped stem borer is a cosmopolitan pest that widely distributed in different regions of northen Iran and spraying with diazinon is the most common procedure to control this pest. We evaluated comparative physiological effects of diazinon spraying on the three populations of Chilo suppresalis collected from Gourabzarmikh (Go), Sheikhmahale (Sh) and Rasht (Ra) in Iran. The determination of...

Fast Detection of Striped Stem-Borer (Chilo suppressalis Walker) Infested Rice Seedling Based on Visible/Near-Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging System

Striped stem-borer (SSB) infestation is one of the most serious sources of damage to rice growth. A rapid and non-destructive method of early SSB detection is essential for rice-growth protection. In this study, hyperspectral imaging combined with chemometrics was used to detect early SSB infestation in rice and identify the degree of infestation (DI). Visible/near-infrared hyperspectral images...

Molecular Cloning and Characterization of the First Caspase in the Striped Stem Borer Chilo suppressalis

Apoptosis is executed through the activity of the caspases that are aspartyl-specific proteases. In this study, we isolated the caspase gene (Cscaspase-1) of Chilo suppressalis (one of the leading pests responsible for destruction of rice crops). It possesses the open reading frame (ORF) of 295 amino acids including prodomain, large subunit and small subunits, and two cleavage sites (Asp23 and ...

Evaluation of Rice Promising Lines for Resistance to Striped Stem Borer in Field Conditions

In this study, the mechanism of resistance to striped stem borer was investigated in 10 rice genotypes and at different levels of nitrogen fertilizer. In addition, the relationship between some quantitative and qualitative traits of rice genotypes was evaluated with the resistance to striped stem borer. This experiment was conducted as split plot based on randomized complete block design with...
